After a year hiatus, I have decided to revive my prep blog because once again I am covering prep sports for the Sgv Tribune this fall. What started out as a simple short-term assignment has blossomed into a 5 years stint. Such is the life of a correspondent I suppose. I hope to jot down some of my ruminations, analysis and experiences as I cover the prep scene from the multitude of press boxes in the region.

Some things that are new this year: For those of you who don’t pick up the newspaper on a regular basis, the Trib came out with a prep football magazine in yesterday’s edition which featured extensive coverage of all the area teams. This 50-page monster was chock full of stats, previes and info, mostly compiled by long-time Tribune and Pasadena Star News Editors Fred Robledo and Steve Ramirez. The third big contributor was staff writer Aram Tolegian, formerly of Fox Sports who returns to the Lang group of newspapers this season to help out with their prep sports blog.

As for me, I have no assignments for zero week this long holiday season, so I am taking a break and you will find me enjoying the big game between Glendora and Charter Oak at Citrus College tomorrow night to open the new season. The Chargers had another stellar campaign in 2009 with a 13-1 record while being coached by Lou Farrar, whose resume includes impressive CIF credentials, while the Tartans’ 7-4 record doesn’t really tell the story of a powerful  offensive with quarterback Chad Jeffries under center. Other standout players include Thomas Corwin and Demetrius Hicks, so Glendora is sure to make some waves in the new Baseline League. Should be a heck of a match-up.

Stop by and say hello if you’re at the game!
