BALDWIN PARK – A week after their running attack was shut down by Azusa High School, Sierra Vista’s Giovanni Rivera made sure it returned to form with a five-touchdown performance as the Dons rolled to a Montview League victory at home over Workman on Friday night.

Rivera was dominant rushing the football. He accounted for 341 of Sierra Vista’s 466 yards on the night and scored on runs of 12, 36, 35, 19 and 74 yards.

Sierra Vista took an early 14-0 lead on Rivera’s first two touchdowns on its way to a 35-7 halftime advantage.

Workman mounted a drive midway through the second quarter and scored their lone touchdown on quarterback Val Cervantes’ 15-yard run.

However, the Dons limited Cervantes to four completions on 13 attempts, for 26 yards, with an interception.

The Dons improved to 5-1, 2-1 in league, and the Lobos dropped to 1-5, 0-3.
