WALNUT – After falling behind by two scores at the half, Walnut High School (4-4, 2-3) staged a second-half comeback against Rowland (4-5, 1-4), sparked by three touchdowns from quarterback Brandon Roach, in a 33-28 victory at home on Friday night.

Roach finished 18 of 30 for 230 yards and overcame three interceptions to toss touchdowns of 12 and 48 yards.

Roach also did damage to the Raiders on the ground, scoring on a 5-yard keeper in the final quarter.

The Raiders led the Mustangs 28-14 at halftime despite both teams trading turnovers in the first half.

Walnut’s defense shut down Rowland in the second half, scoring 19 unanswered points to secure the victory.

“We gave them great field position in the first half,” Walnut coach Michael O’Shields said.

“We just had to clean up the turnovers and establish the run.”
