GLENDORA – Gladstone High School went into Friday’s Montview League game against Azusa hoping to force a three-way tie for first place in league, but the Aztecs put a resounding end to that scenario and capped an undefeated season with a rout at Citrus College.

Azusa (10-0, 7-0) got a pair of touchdowns from Steven Blount and two more from Jake Martinez in their shutout of the Gladiators (5-5, 5-2).

The Aztecs held the Gladiators to 140 total yards and took advantage of three turnovers.

Azusa coach Joe Scherf said experienced leadership made the difference for his team this season.

“We had a lot of returners and kids that have been in the program three or four years that are well-developed and worked their butts off,” Scherf said.
