Lakers vs. Hornets Game 5 analysis.

Well, as I sit here the Hornets are getting beat by 16 in L.A. in the pivotal game 5 “swing game.” Personally even though I am disappointed over their performance in this game, I have been pretty impressed by how the Hornets have taken the fight to the world champs and made a series out of it, especially since one of their best shooter (West) is out.

The Hornets are undermanned, undersized and basically have less playoff experience than L.A.’s bigs, but it seems to me that games 1 and 4 proved they could be physical and that Kobe is struggling somewhat guarding younger players (especially Chris Paul.)

Still, the Hornets probably lack another quality shooting guard to overtake the Lakers, especially with the resurgence of Andrew Bynum. Bynum’s play, especially on the defensive side of the ball has been the key factor in this series so far, well that and a nagging inconsistent tendency by the refs. to not call offensive fouls both ways, but that’s another story altogether.

So the scene will most likely shift to New Orleans with the champs up 3-2 in the series and looking to close out a round one series that has been more of a struggle and far more challenging than they probably anticipated going in.

Offensively, I think New Orleans should go back to attacking the paint, they took way too many jump shots in the second half and turned the ball over way too many times (18 by last count) to secure the W. They might not be able to pull this out, but it sure would be nice to see them take this thing to seven games. The Lakers aren’t going to give you anything, so you should make it as hard as possible on them in return.
