RANCHO CUCAMANGA – The Glendora High School boys’ basketball team bounced back from Friday’s loss with an important win over the Los Osos Grizzlies 46-31 Tuesday night in a Baseline League matchup.

Kyle Gordon’s double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) led the way for the Tartans who had to find ways to score as leading scorer Nick Colletta could only muster eight points, but did get five rebounds and a steal.

“It’s not only Nick (Colletta),” Glendora head coach Mike LeDuc said, “but WE as a team has to   shoot better. If we couldn’t score, then we tried to turn up the defense to limit their scoring,”

Glendora’s defense only allowed Los Osos three points in the fourth quarter, as Gordon would score nine of his 16 points in the final quarter to put the game out of reach.

Wesley Burke stepped up to the challenge, also scoring 16 along with seven rebounds, two steals and an assist.

“Wes (Burke) hit a couple of big three-pointers for us,” LeDuc said, “and our defense got us some easy baskets also.”

Jonathon Solomon led the way for the Grizzlies, with eight points, and three rebounds.  Haris Patail tallied seven points and four rebounds while Drake Madkin added six points and three rebounds.

Glendora (16-6, 3-2) begins its second round of league play as they travel to league leader Etiwanda Friday evening.  Etiwanda defeated the tartans earlier this year 56-35.  Tipoff is at 6:30pm.

Glendora (46) – Wesley Burke (16), Kyle Gordon (16), Nick Colletta (8),  Lucio Bolado (2),  Steven Hernandez (2), Christian Schneider (2)

Los Osos (31) – Jonathon Solomon (8),  Haris Patail (7), Drake Madkin (6), Levi Smith (4), Andre Robinson (2), Ryan Coleman (2), Oliver Amajoyi (2)

GLENDORA – Glendora High School was unable to fend off visiting Los Osos, falling 20-7 in their Baseline League opener on Friday night at Citrus College.

The Grizzlies (3-3) jumped to a 13-0 halftime lead when junior quarterback Stephen Johnson connected with receiver Steven Herber twice on touchdowns of 9 and 6 yards.

Los Osos’ defense held the host Tartans to 76 yards of total offense in the first half, limiting running back Donovan Holmes to 33 yards on five carries.

Glendora quarterback Kyle Kianpour had an average outing, completing 7 of 11 attempts for 34 yards.

Kianpour did manage to get the Tartans in the end zone in the third quarter after Glendora took advantage of a Johnson interception.

With 5:33 to play in the quarter and the Grizzlies backed up deep in their own territory, Skyler Crall picked off a Johnson pass and returned it to the 3-yard line to set up the Tartans’ only score of the game.

Kianpour found Josh Pierce on a 2-yard touchdown pass to pull Glendora within six points of Los Osos.

Glendora couldn’t find an answer for Los Osos’ ground game. Senior running back Koa LaBonta racked up 91 yards on 13 carries in the final quarter and scored on a 5-yard run to put the game out of reach.

“We played really hard, we didn’t play well,” Glendora coach Todd Quinsey said. “We missed a lot of assignments on offense, defensively it was the first time in a while people actually drove the ball on us, especially in the first half. They did a good job of controlling the ball. We had plenty of opportunities. Hopefully we get better.”
